Dating a coke addict

Over the last six years, I have intentionally slapped myself in the face to say the least with a relationship that was doomed for failure from the very beginning. It all started when I was entering high school. I met individuals who completely changed my life for the better and individuals who completely destroyed it. To tell you all the truth, he really did ruin a good portion of my life. I went from being a scholar student to snorting lines of cocaine off bathroom sinks in bars and then illegally driving down the If I have to tell the truth it was fun for a very short amount of time.

5 Telltale Signs of a High-Functioning Addict

Dating is a wonderful way for potential partners to get to know each other; and yet occasional meetings and dinners could still hide so much that is important. One of these could be something as hazardous as drug abuse. Skip to main content. Main menu Home. You are here Home. Specialized Dating. If you are just dating, you may not have the opportunity to notice changes in daily habits which are easier to spot in spouses or family members abusing drugs. However if your date was of an average temperament to begin with but lately has been showing signs of a nervous behavior, greater anxiety, restlessness and being talkative, you may want to dig further.

A person abusing cocaine will also experience moments of extreme energy, followed by moments of fatigue and exhaustion. Extreme mood swings is again followed by onset of jitters. Jitters are caused by increased levels of dopamine in the brain that lead to excessive energy. Tremors or hyperactivity may be noticed as the hands tremble or the person's legs or arms twitch or are in constant movement.

Physical signs Apart from mood swings, cocaine use is also accompanied by certain physical signs in an addict. This is especially true in case of crack cocaine smoking which can also be indicated by burnt marks on other body parts like singed eyelashes and brows. Dilated pupils are another symptom of cocaine use since the drug causes the pupils to become larger.

Other physical signs that should put you on your guard are bloodshot eyes as well as occasional nosebleeds. Apart from nosebleeds, a runny nose with no obvious signs of illness is another indicator of cocaine use. Loss of weight If your date had a normal appetite and body weight to begin with and then started losing weight at an alarming rate, you should be on your guard for drug abuse.

Loss of appetite is one side effect of cocaine use and a person using cocaine may begin to lose weight so rapidly that the change in appearance is impossible to ignore. Also cocaine use can make a person experience nausea and the constant need to throw up which further inhibits appetite. While pipes, razor blades and bongs, are paraphernalia most commonly associated with cocaine use, in fact anything can be used as a vehicle to use drugs like small mirrors typically used for shaving, crushed soda cans with holes punched into them, pens with their innards removed, anything glass that has openings on two ends or with black residue like a lighter has been held to it a long time.

While an emergency at home or workplace — as in case of a doctor — can be a valid reason to leave abruptly, such situations are always transparent and there is nothing to hide. Drug addicts usually have a favorite spot and a favorite time no matter how hard they try to hide it. Also just like cravings can strike a pregnant woman any time, the same may be true of drug addicts which is why your date may be compelled to disappear without rhyme or reason.

Things go missing If you have been spending a lot of time together to the extent that your possessions are often lying around at each others place, then any sign of valuables or money going missing should act as a red flag. Cocaine is an expensive drug. The National Institute on Chemical Dependency reports that the high cost of cocaine is often what makes users become dealers of the drug. It mmay seem inconceivable but drug addicts have been known to barter even their wedding ring to finance their next high.

So if your date has been exhibiting most of the above signs and then starts seeing things and points out objects which are simply not there, you know there is something serious going on. Prone to violence Another symptom of prolonged cocaine use is a tendency to violence. Cocaine users can come off as irritable, snappy or even threatening when they get cravings. Many users become aggressive when they are looking for their next fix and cannot find the means. Then again, when taken in high doses, cocaine can create muscle spasms and tremors, and make a person exhibit violent and abnormal behavior.

So if you find your date hitting the rood without any obvious cause, addiction to drugs may be to blame. Past history Prior drug use could be a factor in using drugs in the present. If you know that your date has a history of cocaine use, then many of the above signs in conjunction with this knowledge, should put you on alert. While you should not assume that in case of erratic habits, your date has automatically relapsed, at the same time don't lead yourself into the belief that it cannot happen again.

Boyfriend is a Cocaine Addict

When I met my boyfriend, it was an instant attraction on the phone. He was a friend of a friend and came highly recommended. When I met him finally it was an instant attraction in person. We both felt like it was just right. The glitch, to the perfect story comes a few months after we started dating. I basically have pissed away everything I own or am worth on cocaine.

Cocaine changes addict's brains so they can't recognise loss

We initially met online and arranged to meet in person within a week or so of first contact. He was open from the get-go about the fact that he uses cocaine and, on the day that we had arranged to meet, just a couple of hours before our date, told me about his addiction of 4 years. As an ex-raver ex of about 5 years I have used many drugs and, in the main, my use has been recreational although at times, very regular. In fact, I have always avoided using cocaine any more often than occasionally, because I was always concerned that it would be the substance that, for me, would lead to trouble. He looks like a functional, polite, respectable guy. So, then he eats benzodiazepines - up to 50mg of valium at a time, or an equivalent quantity of xanax. The quantities of coke he sometimes gets through are scary but nothing scares me like the benzos. He freely acknowledges all of his addictions and considers himself an untreatable addict - that is to say, he believes he can beat any of the individual addictions he has now, but he considers there will always be some kind of addiction in his life - just hopefully some less harmful ones.

What It's Like to Date a Drug Addict

The problem is that, nine times out of ten, Hollywood gets it wrong. So, what is a high-functioning addict and what are some of the signs people in this group would likely display? In fact, they work overtime to keep up appearances and hold down jobs. They can actually enjoy professional success, maintain active social lives and hide their demons from the ones they love most — for a while, at least. As with everyone addicted to drugs and alcohol , high-functioning addicts are not a lost cause. A high-functioning addict may chalk up their drug and alcohol use to being standard behavior in their profession. They may also justify it as a reward for their hard work or career success. But for the high-functioning addict, this is just a regular occurrence. Look at who your loved one socializes with. If you notice your loved one has suddenly put down their guitar or stopped playing soccer, it could be because his substance abuse is starting to take over his life. Wait until they appear remorseful over bad behavior…not while they are inebriated or recovering from a hangover. If you think it will help, you can also stage an organized intervention where a small group of loved ones can let the addict know how their behavior makes them feel.

Hey all, A few weeks ago I made a post about this guy I've been seeing. Our relationship has been pretty confusing as he was sending me very mixed signals. At one moment he told me that he didn't want a relationship, yet he began asking me on dates, asking me to spend the night, holding me all through the night, making me breakfast, etc. I figured that it might take him longer to feel the attachment that I feel for him. Truth is, I think about him all the time. I love spending time with him, I love talking to him on the phone for hours, when we are together I love the way he makes me feel.

My boyfriend is self-employed, so weekends mean nothing to him, and he does coke about twice a month. And then drinks. Which obviously makes me feel really great about things. Last year, he was incredibly stressed, and asked me to let him do his own thing for a week because he needed to focus on work. He needed some space, he said.
